March 2nd launched the Fall 2012 Dior Ready-to-Wear show at Paris Fashion Week. Fashion lovers around the world were anxious to see what Bill Gaytten had in store for them after replacing John Galliano as head of the Dior fashion house just one year ago. Gaytten described the collection as "Soft modernity, " and stated  “It’s a new look, in a sense. I wanted to clean things up a bit.” While critics have reported mixed reviews, I feel Gaytten did a marvelous job in exuding the ultra feminine feel that made Christian Dior such a success in 1947 with the launch of his original New Look. I have selected a few of my favorites below!

As a ballet dancer, I cannot resist this look!

Proof that a classy lady can be sexy.

Yes, this is a jumpsuit. Fabulous.

I also cannot resist a beautiful black dress.

The blue is great and the pleated silk tule is very ballet chic.

As we all know, in the world of fashion nothing quite compares to the Fashion Week productions in New York, Milan, and Paris. However, February 8th kicked off the second annual Birmingham Fashion Week and once again proved that Alabama is gaining momentum to become an influence in the fashion community. One of my dearest friends Alexandra Duffley was selected to show her collection of 4 looks and placed as a finalist. I am so proud of her and I would love to wear any of these pieces! Alexandra will be interning with Marchesa this summer and is sure to be an up and coming designer in the near future.

For those of you who have not heard about or had a chance to pick up a copy of Derek Blasberg's "Very Classy", I highly recommend you do so immediately. A unique etiquette book, "Very Classy" speaks to the new age of fashionistas and young women who seem to think that traditions of courtesy and modesty are out dated. In a world of "Jersey Shore" and "Real Housewives," it's no wonder why young ladies think putting everything about your life in the public and making a fool of yourself for attention is the key to fame and success.

Luckily, Blasberg has taken his stand for the sake of classy ladies around the world. (Hooray!) Currently the editor at large of Harper's Bazaar, he has met his fair share of classy icons such as Gwyneth Paltrow and the cover girl of "Very Classy," Byrdie Bell as well as an abundance of "tramps" as he so bluntly states. This being said, although he is a man, he indeed knows from experience about what makes a lady classy or trashy.

I told my little sister, a gorgeous girl at the ripe age of 15, about the book, to which she was insulted of course. Naturally she thought I was suggesting she needed help in the Classy category. I feel strongly, however, that everyone could use a little refresher every now and then on manners. And if you don't, then why not read a book that confirms how proper you already are! I consider myself a Classy individual (if you did not get this already, please see the title of my Blog) but I enjoyed this book immensely. A funny read, I recommend it to even the classiest of ladies.
